by her milky, deep-sleep sighs 

on my chest

it's been almost exactly a month

since i've posted

and it's been a bursting one for sure-

a roller coaster 

of summer goodness

paralyzing anxiety

and love

love. love. love.

with each 

long-awaited 

deep, deep breath 

that i take

weighted only by 6lbs 12oz

of slumbering sweetness

i can feel 

my heart

being stitched 

from the bottom 

up...

with summer now upon us

and this next chapter

right around the corner

it's time to share-

we're expecting.

...

the past year has been a roller coaster to be sure-

anticipation, immense joy, soul-crushing heartache, game-changing friendship

fear, hope, anxiety, small miracles, trust

and 

love

...

now, at 32 weeks

there is no hiding this bump of our soon-to-arrive baby

no, we haven't shouted this pregnancy from the roof tops-

but

we are so very happy.

and grateful.

and excited.

also, yes, a little scared.

we are taking life one day at a time.

healing

and fostering confidence

we are looking forward

to august-

to remembering our boy

by celebrating his birthday

and to

welcoming

 his little sister

(yes! a girl!)

flashbulb

that's what they call it, right?

a flashbulb moment-

that instant

when your

life

stops

and

suspends

when your hopes and dreams and plans

change and shatter

and

disappear

...

i gave birth

...

8lbs 2oz, 21.5"

baby boy

after a long, but healthy pregnancy

followed by a long, but wonderful abc labor and delivery

we didn't get our skin-to-skin and delayed cord clamping and long-dreamed-of introductions

instead

he was whisked away-

a little suction

we thought

meconium

we knew

laying

helpless

in the big recovery bed

when doctors came back

so we could "make decisions about our son"

deprived of oxygen

brain trama

seizures

cooling

now

we wait

tests 

and questions without answers

time and healing

but no plans

only prayer

...

in late june

the ladies in my life

all gathered in little compton

on a glorious sunday morning

 for a most wonderful party

in honor of this little boy-to-be and me...

     

we were treated to delicious food

a (very appropriately-me) game played

     

the cutest of cupcakes devoured

love and laughter 

filled the day

sisters travelled from miles and miles...

 

the boys (+ nellie) took a paddle while we celebrated

i am thankful

for summers spent by the sea...

i'm off to float!

friends, already...

we are starting to wonder 

how our pets will respond 

when we bring the little guy home 

...

 nellie 

has definetly become more protective of me as this pregnacy has progressed 

but she is still quite a puppy and can get quite spastic 

...

 lately, though 

she loves to lay 

spooned up beside me 

head on the baby belly

it's a...

only 8 weeks

until we get to meet this 

little man!

....

lunch, lately

brunch, really...

plain 0% fage greek yogurt

fresh raspberries

pistachio bits

agave drizzle

and

ice cold coconut water

lunch, lately

quinoa caprese salad

organic vegetable juice

...

this just seems like the perfect lunch

to eat on the back steps

while taking a gardening break

lunch, lately

i have to say, i was totally prepared to have CRAZY cravings during my pregnancy

but luckily, i've had no aversions to anything 

and aside from giving into an after-diner scoop of ice cream more often, 

all i really crave is milk, ICE water and citrus- anything! citrus!

lunches tend to be a smorgasbord of left-overs, fresh fruits and veggies and fresh bread...

organic milk, avacado, hummus, sun-dried tomatoes, great harvest high five fiber bread, sliced parmesan

happy baby belly!

simple goodness- ripe avacado with a drizzle of olive oil, sea salt and pepper, eaten right out of itself!
