fall 2009

Photobucket

last weekend we managed to pull together an impromptu photo shoot for my fall 2009 collection
spring is truly in full bloom on cape cod, but it could also easily be early fall, right?!
a special thanks to my fantastic models, charlotte, emma and maggie! these girls were so much fun... and the clothes have never looked more gorgeous!

midnight quilting

i've begun my summer waitressing gig on cape cod... always a bittersweet time of the year; of course this means beach walks, coffee every morning with my dad, projects with mum and visits with grama, not to mention summer being just around the corner! but, it also means working 7 days a week, missing my beloved providence fresh markets and weekends spent with friends.

seeing i spend nearly 6 months of the year in our little rented beach cottage, i've committed myself to making it truly feel like home this season.
my mini makeover is well underway... so far, the main living space is painted (a mint "martha stewart" green) with blue + white seersucker curtains made and hung, bedroom painted a dreamy blue... ok, so that's all for now.

BUT

i have spend my late evenings (after finishing waitressing!) working on my first quilt for ME (or us, rather...). i have long been drawn to the simple, yet beautiful "coin quilt" and have labored over the wheres and whens. finally, i just dove in- for the beach house! our bed needed a little TLC, as for the past few years i have kept warm with a quilt my mom made in college- thread bare, but i love it dearly!
i wanted to put a few favorites from my fabric stash into use and a cape cottage bedroom could not be more perfect for the palette of pale yellow, blue, mint and
 turquoise.

Photobucketi am roughly following orangeflower's pattern and so far an loving it. i have all the "coin" stacks sewn and tomorrow will tackle putting together the entire front. i am so excited to see how it is coming together... maybe i'll even have a finished product by sunday!

my first time chain piecing... who knew quilting could be so quick!

working on a layout...

maybe i should work on a way to cover up the hideous wall-to-wall carpeting next!

lucky- cape cod

i was thrilled to open this month's lucky magazine and find my FAVORITE cape shops featured in their shopping section!

i literally cannot drive by design works without stopping in to see what's new... john robshaw, john derian, dash + albert, rikshaw design, matta.... the list goes on and on!

weekend is off the beaten track, but on the way to nauset beach with makes for a fun
stop on a beach day. the store is packed with eco-friendly goods like stewart + brown, prairie underground, re-purposed furniture and local art.

hummm... maybe i'll have to stop in this weekend to congratulate and do my part for the 3/50 project

man behind the lens

on the same note as the last posting i did about the shots my grandfather had taken of my grama...
this footage that john anderson beavers took of his wife, in maine, on a super 8 is GORGEOUS.
the light. vintage quality. how he sees her. amazing.

captured moments

i adore this series of images that my grandfather snapped of my grama in 1957 on cape cod.
i so love the idea of a man getting behind the camera to shoot what he finds beautiful about his wife... these chic, simple, candid shots perfectly capture her grace.

do you think either of them knew that they had shot nearly identical photos of each other?

cotton

i spotted this over at camp comfort...

i love zooey deschanel... i mean, how cute is she!?
her films, style... and here, she sings!
remember her ADORABLE house in domino (tear...)?
even though i don't love commercials,  i and digging this fresh new take.
even better that it is for cotton.

now, if only it was ORGANIC.

beach buggy

how awesome is this!?

seriously... this just may be the best way to beat the parking lines at nauset light on surf days.

finally! a MUCH cooler option for toting multiple kids than those tents on wheels.

Madsen Cycles Cargo Bikes has to take the cake for the best way to get the kids around... and loving that it feels almost like a side-car!

handmade cards

i wanted to give a little handmade love this mother's day, so i did a little take on the fabric-flag banners that are oh-so popular these days...

i pulled out my fabric scrap stash and pulled together a few favorites. i backed them with iron-on interfacing and got to work embroidering letters to spell out "happy mother's day!"

i did three sets (for my mum, mother-in-law and grama)!
the letters were then cut out in itty-bitty flag shapes.
i taped the flags in place onto a piece of watercolor paper and machine-stitched the "clothes line" through the flags.
the tape was removed and a pre-cut mat was glued to frame the card.

i think this would  make a wonderful card for any sort of celebration- "welcome baby" or "congratulations" would surely earn a spot in the memory book!

full bloom

spring is FINALLY in full bloom here in providence and i really don't think there is a better way to start my day than by driving down the cherry blossom-lined streets on the way to my studio.

ahhh... the windows are wide open and i am LOVING the bursts of pink.

nothing would make me happier than a few of these blossoming branches on my work table.
