girl time

still thinking about last week's girl's night.

carmelized onion, mushroom, baby spinach pizza from gourmet
roast butternut squash and arugula salad with warm cider vinaigrette
warm apple and cranberry crumble with vanilla ice cream
pinot noir

beyond yum.
and, of course, so good to get together and catch up!

she's the one

here she is!
we finally chose our little lady this weekend (or, rather, she chose reid!)... the pups have their 1st vet appointments and shots this week and will be ready to go this weekend.
i am really over the moon.
we are still undecided on a name- my favorite is back to "blondie" with "poppy" as a back up, while reid might be stuck on "lucy."

many more pics to come, i'm sure!

hipster tot

i am totally in love with my vespa (seriously, THE best way to get around cape cod in the summer months).
so, when i saw this, i couldn't help but swoon...

transformed by one VERY cool grandpa for his grandson.

play quilt

this is quite a belated post... but when the joy-rush of finishing a project comes over me, there is normally no time for photographs.

i made this play-quilt for my niece, anya, last holiday season.
i love that it isn't overly-girly, but still sweet.

i mixed the cotton wovens with a fine-wale corduroy and flannel for texture play.
i had the fabulous alexander henry zoo print in my stash for SO long, and was thrilled to put it to good use!

the animals provided a fun pattern for the quilting, so i picked a random assortment and stitched around them in contrasting thread.

miss blue eyes snuggling up to the finished project!

and now that we have used the coin quilt on our summer bed all season, perhaps i can finally take it out for a shoot this weekend!

music love

i am loving adele's version of bob dylan's classic...
perfectly moody for fall.

sad day.

conde nast announced yesterday that they are closing four more of their beloved magazines. amongst them, Gourmet and our very favorite, Cookie.
after Domino shut down last year, I am really not sure that I can take much more.

we were lucky enough at Sarah Waldo Organics to have clothes featured in Cookie, and so enjoyed their fresh take on children's fashion shoots.

hopefully, they will keep their website live so we can continue to enjoy the eye candy of there nesting blog with INSANELY inspiring home tours (my fave here!) and insightful city guides.

back to nature

when i saw the amazing work of james d. griffioen, i was instantly brought back to nights from my childhood, all snuggled up, with my mom reading one of our favorites: the little house

remember this story,  of the little house in the country that literally gets swallowed up by the city that grows around her? all ends well, of course, when she is recognized and brought back out to the country.
so when i came across these haunting photos, they left me a little... hopeful, too.

four weeks!

we took a trip over to see the puppies again this weekend... they are now four weeks old and it's just amazing how much they change so quickly at this age!
we still haven't picked our little lady, but we are throwing names around....
lucy, olive (livi), blondie, gina, gidget, and lola are just a few from today's list.
four more weeks to go!

i was mesmerized by this for a good 10 minutes.
for the first time, since learning to machine sew at four,  i finally understand how the machine works!
very cool.
